Bulgarian heavyweight pride wins the award for 8th time in his career
Kubrat Pulev is the best Bulgarian athlete for May 2016. Nation’s Heavyweight boxing pride won the Golden badge of Pressclub Bulgaria for 8th time in his professional career. One of the most modest and prestigious awards in Bulgarian sport was established in 1998. All sports editors in the country voted for the European heavyweight champion. Just a month ago Pulev returned back home the european belt by defeating Derek Chisora (Great Britain) in Hamburg.
“There is a huge chance my next match to be in Bulgaria. We are negotiating with “Arena Armeec ” and Marius Wach, who is eager to face me at the ring. The bout most likely will be for the European belt defence”, admitted one of the most beloved athletes in Bulgaria at a press conference in Sofia.
In 2008 Kubrat Pulev won the Golden badge twice (February and November) in 2011 he was at the top of the standings in October and May 2012, also in 2013, when he dominated once again in two months (August and December) as well as now in May 2016.
Only two Bulgarian sports legends have won the awatd more times than Kubrat Pulev. Five-time Olympic medalist and two-time Olympic champion in shooting Maria Grozdeva has 11 wins, the lord of the rings in gymnastics world – Jordan Jovtchev (4 times Olympic medalist, four-time world champion) has 10 wins.
