Kubrat Pulev is the new holder of the International WBA title in Heavyweight division of professional boxing. In front of 15 000 spectators, filled to overflowing “Arena Armeec” in Sofia, Bulgarian sporting hero beat Samuel Peter. Former world champion from Las Vegas, Nevada found strength to stay tall against Pulev only three rounds and then the bell of the third came for him like salvation.
Sam Peter didn’t find an answer for Pulev’s strong start and even got injured. The Nigerian nightmare struggled with an elbow injury and with the gong of the third round decided to stop the clash avoiding an expectable KO.
It was the 24th success at the professional ring for Kubrat Pulev, who is expected after this triumph to become again a major contender for the world title next year. Pulev has 12 knockouts in 25 matches as the 13th certainly would be registered against Peter if he had not given up voluntarily.
Pulev made the evening unforgettable for all Bulgarians, after coming into the ring under the accompaniment of 100 bagpipes and music of the cult Bulgarian traditional song by Stefka Sabotinova – “Prituri se planinata”, instead of his favorite AC/DC “Thunderstruck”. His appearance in the hall, wearing trousers and a hooded cloak wrapped labeled “PULEV” on the back, literally blew the stands of most modern sports facility in the country.
An hour before, the fans celebrated the first Bulgarian victory for the night. Tervel Pulev – bronze medalist of the Olympic Games in London 2012 knocked out Croatia’s Tomislav round in the third round of his debut match in the pros.
