With a red “Boxing glove” cake and a festive fireworks finished the open practice of Kubrat Pulev before the “Final countdown” boxing gala. The big show is this Friday in Sofia. The main reason for the party straight after the nice workout in front of hundreds of fans and journalists was…Uli Wegner. One of the greatest coaches in the European boxing and true legend in his homeland Germany turned 75 today.
Wegner was delighted to receive his birthday cake straight on the ring from the strong hands of his pupil – WBA Intercontinental champion and Bulgarian heavyweght pride Kubrat Pulev.
“There’s no place like Bulgaria, there’s no place like home. Here everything is beautiful and the weather is so good. I feel great and on Friday, with God ahead and I hope to make one step closer to achieving my dream,” said Pulev. On Friday he will defend his WBA belt against the former world title contender Kevin Johnson.
Tomorrow is the official weigh-in before the boxing gala.
